I am exited to go on this Sumatra trip. Except for..

…the fact that there are a lot of problems there right now. Sure I shouldn’t look at the negative things but how doesn’t. Right now I am getting all my stuff together like clothes, backpacks, and etc. So to whom ever is reading this have you ever been camping or white water rafting? I have so this trip isn’t going to be too much of a difference. Personally I went on the trip to go on my first trip by myself ( I mean that is actually far away and that is 9 1/2 hours long ). But now it’s more of helping the Orangutans and learning about a new culture and language. That sounds like something a such up would say but it’s what I really feel . On this trip I have to focus on studying about the orangutans We chose that because it wasn’t an essay and we get to take pictures . My group that I am working with is a group of three they are Lauren, Jessica and me . Well that’s all for now from Alana . So I guess I’ll right back later. Andrew Rising

Hey, Wuz I am going to tell you about my trip to Sumatra. First…

…we will be departing from our tents in the desert to the ocean where we will ride a Dow for a month to Indonesia. From there we will join up with a cannibalistic tribe and eat the chaperons in a stew, with a cube of chicken bullion. My feelings about this trip are optimistic. I am feeling that this will be a very exciting and fun trip. I am preparing for this trip by learning some of the language and learning a little about the culture. Also I have been learning about the rain forest and all of its inhabitants. From this trip I hope to learn more about Sumatra’s culture and the rain forest. I would like to raise money for the monkeys. My project entails taking photos of Lake Toba, and to interview craftspeople, market people, hotel staff, and the boat men.

Hey Wuz ( Dudes?. I know what you are thinking, another dumb blond fool, with a buzz cut and a keyboard. Let me be the first to inform you…

…of another case of shooting first and asking questions later. I am a normal 14 year old male. I am stuck in the sand pit of the earth otherwise known as Saudi Arabia. I am not a Saudi Arabian who rides a camel to school and lives in a tent. In truth I am a normal CANADIAN boy. Try me eh! I am always roaming around school wearing a radically Canadians shirt. My name is Brock Robetson alias “Arch Nemesis” . I am very exited and interested in the 1998 Sumatra trip. I think the trip will be a good learning experience of how mankind is slowly killing off the rain forest and consequently killing off himself. I have hiked in Nepal, New Zealand, Canada, Austria, Borneo, and Thailand. I am an avid hiker and an athlete. I hope to out hike Mr. Cason the leader of our Sumatra trek. I also wish to learn about the habits of Prime8’s.My project includes interviewing boatsmen, and market pleople with my colleagues Robert Neff, Conor Furr, and Andrew Rising.

Hi, I am Conor Furr. The trip is getting closer and closer. My feelings about this trip are…

…mixed. I am excited to go on the trip but I am also wondering if we will be able to go with what is going on in Indonesia. I can’t wait to go. I think that the trip is going to be great. I am preparing by ordering all my supplies and making sure that I have everything. I am also getting ready to go by reading the information given to us and by going to the meetings. I hope that I get to learn more about Sumatra and the orangutan. I also want to learn more about the culture of Sumatra. The project that I have to do for this trip is an interview of some one on part of our trip. I have to interview some one at Lake Toba. There I could interview the craft people, the market people, hotel staff, or the boatmen. The people that I am working with are Brock Robertson, and Andrew Rising. Good bye. Sincerely, Conor Furr

Daisy Dimick Feb. 19 I can not wait to go to Sumatra in April of 1998. I hope…

…I get to see an Orangutans at the rehabilitation center. I think that will be exciting to see where they are trying to rehabilitation the Orangutans that were once out in the wild and for some reason have been hurt so that they cannot live in the wild any more. These Orangutans might also have had their living environment disrupted. I think that this is sad and I hope that while I’m there I can give back to their habitats. I will hopefully be able to donate to the people directly in contact with helping the Orangutans, because some times when people donate it does not all get directly to the cause. I’m doing lot to prepare for this trip. I have read magazine articles on the best boots and sock from trekking through a tropical climate. I have also read many articles about the recent forest fires and the problems with the unstable money in Sumatra. I don’t think that I could ever be to prepared for this trip. In conjunction with my trip I will be doing a project on the Culture of the people in Sumatra. I will be working in a group with three other people from my trek. We will be focusing on interviewing and learning about people like the hotel staff, village guides, dancers, and musicians. I think that talking to these people one on one will be very interesting and hopefully that the people will realize that we are interested in their culture and want to help save the rain forest.

Dan’s Sumatra Page I feel like I will have lots of fun on this trip to Sumatra. I really hope…

… I do not get a disease but besides that I feel confident. I am looking forward to look at the thriving animal life in the area of Sumatra that we are going to. I also really want to see the stinking giant. To prepare for my trip I am climbing the jebels at night before I go to bed and I am cleaning my knife. I need some binoculars to see animals in the canopy. I want to see the rain forest before it is wiped off the face of the earth. I am also saving up to buy the weapons of Sumatra. I collect may kinds of weapons. I hope I learn to appreciate my environment more and take care of my environment and protect it. When we get to Sumatra we will be interviewing people and seeing how the recent news is affecting them. We will also be taking pictures and making a photo essay. I really think this will be the best trip I have taken in my life.

I play basketball, unicycle, and I enjoy computers. I plan to be a zillionare from basketball being an author, or just inherit the money. The world would be so much nicer if we were at peace, and how can I change the world? By becoming the supreme dictator of Earth and declaring peace. So who is it? It’s me!

Michael’s Sumatra Page I feel like this trip will be a lot of fun and exciting. I hope that…

…the fires there will stop soon so that there won’t be too smog in the air when we get there. I want to meet the orphaned orangutans in the center because they may be soon extinct. We are going to go hiking in the rain forest and there will hopefully be lots of trees and animals to see. I bought new boots and gear to be prepared for the trip. I have pants that turn into shorts and a new knife. I want to learn about the culture and the way people live there. We might get to see a religious ceremony. I also want to learn about the orangutans, what they eat and do to survive. When we get to Sumatra I will do photo essay in the Berastagi Highlands and how recent events have affected the people up there. I will interview the guide, hotel people, and craftspeople up there.

My name is Robert Neff, and below are my thoughts and ideas on my trip to Sumatra. I feel excited…

..about this trip. I am happy that I was selected for this trip. On this trip, I feel that I will learn about the Orangutan, and their environment, and about life in southeast Asia. I am preparing for this trip, by getting equipment together that I think is necessary for this trip. For this trip, I am packing my clothes, etc. in a hiking backpack, and am going to carry a day pack with me. For an environment like this, I am going to bring stuff that can get wet, such as gore-tex and good hiking boots made of gore-tex. I hope to learn more about the Orangutans, and how ordinary people can help save these creatures from extinction. I hope that I can help assist the Orangutans, by my money that I earn. I plan to earn my money, by people pledging money to me for the miles I run.

Kidlink Registration My name is Robert Heath Neff III, and my hobbies, are baseball, sailing, golf, ice hockey, soccer, and football. When I grow up, I would like to…

… go to become an astronaut, and a doctor. In my opinion, a perfect world, would be one in which there was no pollution, and animals where not killed for any reasons except food, and there where no drugs, and crime. To change the world now, I can try to not use a much pollutant products, and not waste stuff. I already recycle, and I think it is a great thing to do.

Hello, my name is Shanaz King, I think that this trip is going to be a lot of fun because…

…I get to get away from the desert and actually go to somewhere that’s green. Its great that I kind of get to be on my own for a while and not have to be with my parents, even though I will miss them and will also have the guidance of Mr. Cason and Mr. Gordon and whomever might be coming on the trip to help them out. I look forward to going and see all of the different types of diversities there. I hope that I don’t encounter any leeches! I have already begun to prepare by purchasing hiking boots and I have started getting all of my old clothes (T-shirts) to wear when I am trekking. However, I am still thinking of other things that I will need to bring on the trip. Books might be one of them. I am definitely going to prepare for the weather and the long treks. I hope to learn more about the Orangutans and how the live in their habitats. I also hope to learn more about the situations of the forests in Sumatra and what steps people can do to help save the forests and keep more of it from being destroyed. I think that if we educated more people about the condition that their forests were in, that there would be a pretty good chance of the forest’s recovery. I am working on my project with two other people that are going on the trip to Sumatra. Their names are Tyrae and Daisy. Our project specifically entails Bukit Larwong and the label staff, village guides, dances, and the musicians.( Basically their culture.)

This is Lauren. I am really excited and I can’t wait to go. I still need …

…to get a lot of equipment together for the trip but I am getting there. I don’t really have any fears for the trip. Not right now any way. I am ordering stuff and watching out for the things that I need when I go anywhere. When I go, I mostly just want to have fun, but I would also like to know about the Orangutans and the culture of the people. I hope that I am able to make some kind of good impact on Sumatra, even if it is in a little way. When we go to Sumatra we have to do an interview. My group is Alana and Jessica. We are going to interview some helpers at the Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. I think that is going to be interesting, but I’m not sure. But I am very excited about this trip! My feelings about this trip are: I feel that I will learn a lot about Orangutans and about the environment. I also feel that I will learn about other cultures. The way I am preparing for this trip by: Ordering all the materials that I need. I am working in my boots and other things that need working in. The things that I hope to learn are: The religion and customs of different cultures. New and different species. A new language. The project that I a going to talk about: The Berastagi Highlands, and the volcano
